Thai silk wrap skirt with an asymmetrical fold-over waistband and adjustable ties. The Thai Silk Sawan Skirt is cut from superfine-grade Thai silk, woven on a 2-heddle loom in Ubon, Thailand. The entire process — from silk cultivation to dyeing, weaving, washing, and finishing — is done completely by hand.
Once the silk has been cultivated, it is hand-reeled, with the filaments twisted together into strands and wound into sections. Each section is intricately hand-tied with string to create motifs throughout. After all sections are complete, the silk is hand-dyed using a combination of natural dyes — in this instance, ebony fruit, bark, and lotus stems — and synthetic dyes, which help prevent fading over time. The dyeing process is repeated multiple times due to the multicolored nature of the design. After dyeing, the silk is woven using a traditional wooden handloom and wooden hand shuttle. Once woven, the silk is gently washed and softened, then stretched and prepared to be cut and sewn.
Please note: This is a completely handmade garment, and due to the traditional handmade processes of dyeing, weaving, washing, stretching, and prepping, the silk may display natural imperfections.
100% Silk.
